Solomon Stelter bassist. tubaist. musician.
A Brief Introduction
Since a young age, music has been an important part of Solomon's life. As his dad is a band teacher, Solomon attended concerts throughout his childhood and was introduced to quality music in and around the house. In Grade 2, Solomon began to take piano lessons with his other siblings, which was the foundation for his musical knowledge. In Grade 6, Solomon began to learn Tuba for the middle school concert band, and a year later, Bari Sax for the jazz band. In Grade 8, Solomon picked up the bass and began taking bass instead of piano lessons, so he could focus all his energy on his newfound passion. For the last four years, Solomon has become a well-known and reliable bassist in the Calgary area, playing in various big bands and combos. Solomon is looking forward to the future and is excited to welcome any and all opportunities that come his way.
Why Solomon Should Be Considered For This Scholarship
During his time in high school, Solomon has clearly shown his musical ability and leadership in each ensemble that he has been a part of. Whether in school or the community, Solomon has demonstrated his care and attention to music. Solomon has played regularly at churches in and around High River. The high school bands that he is a part of have performed often at school and in the community, most notably at Remembrance Day services for the Town. He has performed at many different venues in and around Calgary, including The Venue in High River, and in audition-only Provincial Honour Bands. It is clear that Solomon has devoted his entire high school career to the pursuit of music. This scholarship must be awarded to the most musical people attending Highwood High School, and Solomon Stelter is one of those people.
If Solomon wins this scholarship, he will be using the money to buy musical equipment to further his career in music and to cover tuition for post-secondary studies in music. After a year or two of General Biblical Studies at Millar College of the Bible, Solomon hopes to attend university for a Bachelor of Music focusing on bass, and a Bachelor of Education, hoping to follow in the footsteps of his father, and his father's father before him, as a Band Teacher.
